June 20, 2009

Education is being sold today just like a product with great offers. moreover there are also associated frrebeis to attaract the customer (student). most of the business schools sprouted up in the past have a dedicated group of marketing team who prmotes the institute and attracts the students to the institution for admissions. most of us know that marketing promises are the traps wooven carefully using the twist of language and words. these marketing promises are similar to the marketing promises of any other product-not completely reliable. what was said before admission can change after the admission and you can not do anything because it was a marketing strategy. bargain offers come in the institutes in a different shape where they are termed as scholarship. sometimes even going beyond this the eisting students of college are given incentives to bring in more admissions e.g. a part of the fee paid to the institute by a new admission that an existing student has facilitated is given to the facilitating student. at the time of admission or in the prospectus or prochure it is very common to find “free laptops are provided to all the students” so as to make the institutes offering more lucarative.

checklist before you acept an offer from any institute

because you are paying a huge amount (lakhs of rs) as fee to the institute so its your right to enquire about any thing you want to. because once the fee has been paid it becomes very difficult to take out the money.

  • certification by the ugc that the course/degree/university providing the degree is certified by university grants commission.
  • a valid written proof if the institute is promising a regular degree. (because most of the times these institute hand over a distance learning degree at the end to you while they have been claiming it as regular degree. they don’t mention the worl regular degree anywhere in any document)
  • even if the institute is offering a distance education degree ask for the approval and certification by the distance education council.
  • moreover ckeck for the approval of the college/business school/ institute as an authenticated study centre/off campus study center of the concerned university.
  • check the intake capacity as is mentioned by the parent university or distance education council per batch for that very institute. it may be possible that the institute is admitting muh more students than it is authorised to.
  • always ask for written statement (duly signed/stamped by institution) of whatever the college/institute/business school is claiming.
  • always ask whether the programme offered is certified by any valid organization other than the institute offering it. for example aicte.
  • make it clear which course offered is the main course and which other courses are auxillary in nature.
  • if you feel something fishy do not hesitate to file an rti and find out the truth. it just costs a few hrs and rs. 10/- only.

June 17, 2009 Update

It was the day decided by DBS authorities for the GD PI for the admissions in to July batch of MBA. But the already duped students decided to aware new innocent students about what they have found after spending 7-8 months at DBS. So 9-10 students of MBA HM reached the DBS and sat outside the boundary of DBS with their banners/posters claiming what has been answered by UGC and DEC in response to their RTI. As this impacted the GDPI negatively and very few students went for the same so the college authorities called in the police. As soon as the police came and asked the students to take down their posters/banners the security staff of DBS collected at the main gate. After the banners/posters have been taken down by the students the police returned. Now the security staff of the DBS who was peaceful since morning turned abusive and started forcing the students to immediately vacate the place although the area does not falls in the campus boundary of the DBS. Security staff even threatened the students with dire consequences.

Later on the students were called at the Badarpur police station

where the director of the college was already present. Their police authorities asked both the parties to submit their side of story in detail once again (students already have given their side of complaint to the police earlier). Police asked both the parties to return in the evening for a negotiation. In the evening when both the parties met but the meeting was not fruitful as DBS totally ignored the students demand.

Mid Day report exposing DBS

Mid day on 17th june gave two page report exposing DBS. The paper also tells the DBS point of the storywhich is not so much satisfying. Here is the overview

28 students from a private B-school at Badarpur were promised regular post-graduate degrees; they paid lakh
s in fees but halfway through the semester realised their institu
tion wasn't permitted to run the course. Now, they want
a total refund. Amit Singh investigates

Institute cheated us of lakhs in fees'

Angry students file police complaint alleging the institute charged extra from them

By:

The red, brick-lined building with sleek posters of smart girls and boys in business suits had fired their dreams. It had made them believe that their course in Hospital Management would open doors to a dream life. But 28 students of the first batch of
the Hospital Management course of Delhi Business School (DBS), a management institute located on the Mathura Road at Badarpur border, woke
up to the harsh reality mid-way through their two-year course.

RTI clears the air
An RTI petition rev
ealed that instead of offering the promised regular graduate degrees, they would be getting degree
s in
distance education from a private university not authorised to open centres or study units outside Sikkim. Now, t
he students want a refund and have filed a police complaint against the institute. In the police complaint filed on June 10, the students of the 200
8-2010 batch stated that at the time of admission they were informed that DBS was affiliated to EIILM (Eastern Institute for Integrated Learning in
Management) and they would be given post-graduate
degrees from that university.
When the students filed an RTI with the University Grants Commission (UGC) enquiring if EIILM University, Sikkim, was affiliated to the Distan
ce
Education Council (DEC) or the UGC and was permitted to run a Hospital Management programme outside Sikkim, the reply was in the negative. The RTI reply (a copy of which is with MiD DAY) said, "As per DEC records, EIILM Sikkim has been established by an act of State Legislature of Sikkim as a private university and is empowered to award degrees as specified by the UGC Act at its main campus with the approval of the Statutory Councils, wherever required. But the university cannot open any other study centre even within the state, as per the provision of UGC Regulations, 2003, without the approval of UGC."
'Fee not fair'
In the police complaint, the students also alleged that as per university rules, the fees should have been Rs 3,750 per semester. "But the DBS has charged us Rs 1,85,000 for the course till now. We were kept in the dark about the actual fees," said Ashish Sharma, one of the students of the Hospital Management course.
"Each student has been charged a different amount of tuition fees for the same course in the same semester, depending upon their financial potential. When we realized the degree was not the same, which had been promised to us, we demanded a fee refund. However, the college authorities said that they are not liable to do so," added Sharma.
The institute says…
Speaking on the issue, Director of DBS Divya Rajput said, "We are facing this problem with just 28 Hospital Management students. In the beginning, the students were informed that they would have to fly to Sikkim to appear for their final examination. We also offered that if any student was not comfortable with the arrangement, we would tie-up with Punjab Technical University (PTU) and can shift them to that university. The students are now asking for a compensation of Rs 5 lakh, which is not possible. I have told them to take the legal route and whatever the court decides, we will act accordingly."
Clearing the air on the discrepancies in tuition fees among the students of the same batch, Rajput said it was decided on the students merit. "Based on students' marks and capabilities we offer them a scholarship of up to 50 per cent of the total fees. As a result, some students pay less for the same course," said Rajput.
The lead
The students sensed a foul play after their first semester examination in January this year.
"A similar case came into limelight in one of the private institutes at Badarpur border. One of the students from that institute advised we too file an RTI question. We acted accordingly and found out the truth," said Manish Sharma, another student from the same course.

Be warned
On June 11, 2008 the University Grants Commission issued a notification warning students about admission in deemed universities. The UGC said several of these universities were duping students by admitting them into study centers and affiliating colleges, a right they don't have.

Other frauds
May 30, 2009: The vice-chancellor of Singhaniya University, BC Singhania, was arrested in Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan, for allegedly issuing fake degrees of Bachelor of Education and duping students of lakhs of rupees. The private university gave admission to students against 100 vacancies without an approval from the NCET.
June 12: The Madras High Court ruled that the Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts of India (ICFAI) Society in Hyderabad and the ICFAI University in Dehradun had no rights to run centres in Tamil Nadu.

Dhokhebaz Business School is the site exposing the cruel and brutal face of sale of education in Our Country especially in Delhi. A huge no. of MBA sprouted up in recent past. MBA earlier used to be a less known degree to be achieved via well renowned IIM's and foreign business schools. Then some of the so called Educationist analyzed the situation and saw an opportunity to cater to the needs of a huge group of students who wanted an MBA degree. And this resulted in the growth of Business Schools. Although there are some very good private business schools in the country which are equivalent or above IIM's in some or other way. But there are also people who cashed this situation to earn money. Such people opened up so called Business Schools within small Buildings and lured the innocent MBA aspirants from the other States of India. These types of Business Schools provide Distance Learning Degrees of various Universities in their so called "Study Centers". Moreover, most of these "Study Centers" do not have affiliation to do so. It’s very common to find such Business Schools having a huge no. of students enrolled in to the programmes. Sometimes even more than the Infrastructure of the institute can sustain. The students are then taught in shifts as if they were the workers of some Company. This Blog is created for the young aspiring candidates who value education. Just go through the other sections to check out the important details before you invest your parents hard earned money and precious time of you career...

Dhokhebaz Business School

All the students seeking admission in BBA and MBA
Please read it till the end, it can really save your future and money.

We are the students of a business school, Mathura road Delhi
. We took admission in MBA (hospital management) in July batch (2008-2010). At the time of admission we were told that the hospital management course is a regular degree course, affiliated to bharthiar University. But when we got our admission letter, the university we were enrolled in was EIILM (eastern institute of integrated learning and management)Sikkim. When we asked about the change in university, they said there was some course legality issue from bharthiar university, so the college will now provide degree from EIILM university. When we received our admit cards for first semester exams, some suspicion arose in our mind because the admit cards were not anything like the one which university issues.
On the ground of suspicion we filed a RTI and from it, we came to know that the degree we are being provide with is fake because EIILM is not authorized by both, university grant commission and by distance education council to run any course off campus within its state or outside the state. Which concluded that our course is neither regular nor distance learning.
When we approached the college authorities regarding this matter they said that there is nothing wrong in it but if still you students have some problem they can shift the course to Punjab technical university, which too make fool of the students by enrolling them in regular course and provide them the distance learning degree.
They even said that college is not answerable for the fraud done to all students and this business school is just a study centre of its own kind and do not hold any responsibility of the university, even if the university is fake. when we demanded our fee refund of Rs 1,85000/-per head which every student have paid till now ,college said that you can take back only your university fee of Rs 3750/- out of Rs 1,85000/- that too from university directly.
Even the general MBA students are being misguided and have been promised of the regular MBA degree but the truth is that the degree they are getting is a distance learning degree from Punjab technical university for which they are charging a whooping amount of Rs 4,00,000 to 8,00,000/-.but the students can not raise their voice as they have already paid the amount.
As you can clearly see how the colleges are playing with the future of the students just for the sake of money and moreover they are not counting themselves morally responsible for spoiling the career of the students.
So its our hearty plea to all the future MBA and BBA students that please enquire about the college and university thoroughly before taking admission in any course and do demand the recognition letter given to the college by the university, which states that university is providing the authority to the college to run the course.
Moreover do check it very carefully that college is not blinding you for distance learning degree in the name of regular degree. because if we have to take the distance education degree we can directly take it from the university for a meager amount of Rs 4000 to 5000/-per year or for the whole course, for that we don’t need to pay Rs 4 lacs to 8 lacs/-to the so called study centers.
And do keep yourself updated by the UGC notifications, out of which the recent one stated that the so called study centers of the various Universities are only meant for guiding and counseling the students about the courses the university is providing. They are not meant for providing admissions to the courses, so please do not take admission in these study centers or knowledge hubs and prevent your academic year and your parent’s hard earned money from going waste.
This information is provided in the interest of the future students willing to make their careers in MBA/BBA etc. We don’t want that others should suffer what we have suffered. If you know such institutions please don’t forget and fear to disclose them. It would definitely save the career and money of the students in coming time.
Thank you
