Education is being sold today just like a product with great offers. moreover there are also associated frrebeis to attaract the customer (student). most of the business schools sprouted up in the past have a dedicated group of marketing team who prmotes the institute and attracts the students to the institution for admissions. most of us know that marketing promises are the traps wooven carefully using the twist of language and words. these marketing promises are similar to the marketing promises of any other product-not completely reliable. what was said before admission can change after the admission and you can not do anything because it was a marketing strategy. bargain offers come in the institutes in a different shape where they are termed as scholarship. sometimes even going beyond this the eisting students of college are given incentives to bring in more admissions e.g. a part of the fee paid to the institute by a new admission that an existing student has facilitated is given to the facilitating student. at the time of admission or in the prospectus or prochure it is very common to find “free laptops are provided to all the students” so as to make the institutes offering more lucarative.
checklist before you acept an offer from any institute
because you are paying a huge amount (lakhs of rs) as fee to the institute so its your right to enquire about any thing you want to. because once the fee has been paid it becomes very difficult to take out the money.
- certification by the ugc that the course/degree/university providing the degree is certified by university grants commission.
- a valid written proof if the institute is promising a regular degree. (because most of the times these institute hand over a distance learning degree at the end to you while they have been claiming it as regular degree. they don’t mention the worl regular degree anywhere in any document)
- even if the institute is offering a distance education degree ask for the approval and certification by the distance education council.
- moreover ckeck for the approval of the college/business school/ institute as an authenticated study centre/off campus study center of the concerned university.
- check the intake capacity as is mentioned by the parent university or distance education council per batch for that very institute. it may be possible that the institute is admitting muh more students than it is authorised to.
- always ask for written statement (duly signed/stamped by institution) of whatever the college/institute/business school is claiming.
- always ask whether the programme offered is certified by any valid organization other than the institute offering it. for example aicte.
- make it clear which course offered is the main course and which other courses are auxillary in nature.
- if you feel something fishy do not hesitate to file an rti and find out the truth. it just costs a few hrs and rs. 10/- only.
